Return to Education & Talent

Holland Baroque offers the opportunity to gain experience and to build a network in a Dutch first-class baroque ensemble. The offer consists of a one-year training for Early Music students or professionals.

We invite young musicians to find their own way under our wings. Will you join us to gain experience in our quirky baroque ensemble? We encourage you to explore the limits of your personal artistry, armed with the insights and skills you gained at the conservatory.

We invite violinists and viola players to apply for the Samama Fellowship season 2024/2025 auditions. This means there is unfortunately no place for cellists and other instrumentalists. Due to the overwhelming number of applicants in previous years there will be a preselection made through video audition. The deadline for application and video submission is 24th of March. Live auditions will take place on the 11th of April in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

The Samama fellowship is for baroque string and wind players. Six fellows can participate per season. During our projects you are a full member of the ensemble. In line with the Fair Practice Code, you will receive a daily allowance. Travel costs within the Netherlands are fully reimbursed and international travel costs are partially reimbursed.

In addition to practical experience, the fellowship also offers in-depth knowledge in a series of seminars and lectures, a.o. by Judith and Tineke Steenbrink (artistic team), and by Leo Samama himself. Also, specialists in other fields will give lectures on entrepreneurship or marketing. At this time, almost half of the regular players of Holland Baroque come from the fellowship.

Leo Samama

Leo Samama is a composer, musicologist, director, writer and member of the boards of many Dutch ensembles. His influence extends over the entire music world of the Netherlands.

We have great respect for his many talents and we are grateful for his work in the cultural sector and for his years as chairman of our board.

In addition to playing in the orchestra, during the fellowship you will also receive lectures and workshops from Leo Samama, Judith and Tineke Steenbrink (artistic team Holland Baroque) and other specialists.

These lessons will reflect on various topics such as ‘baroque is now’ and ‘why composers in the 18th century never needed a notebook’.
